Divine Home Community Services
Community Development Services (CDS) is a program that is designed to assist our supported individuals in becoming more integrated, independent, and engaged in the community through meaningful and purposeful activities. CDS, a DDA funded program, is separate and distinct from residential services, personal supports, and day habilitation programs, in that CDS is completely community based.
CDS supports the individual’s growth and development through participation in local community events, volunteer opportunities, and a virtually unlimited number of community-based activities. CDS is provided in small groups of up to four individuals, with similar likes and interests, who explore their community up to 5 days a week, for approximately 6 hours per day.
This program is designed to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities familiarize themselves with and accomplish basic community-based tasks, allowing them to become more independent and successful. We follow each individual’s Person-Centered Plan and focus on their strengths, needs, goals, and desires, to help them become active and valued members of their community.
The program seeks to provide a nurturing and welcoming environment where participants feel accepted and valued within their communities.
Participants will receive guidance in developing communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to interact confidently with others.
The program aims to empower individuals with disabilities to become more self-reliant, making their own choices and decisions whenever possible.
Through various activities and events, participants will have opportunities to engage with community members, businesses, and organizations to establish meaningful connections.
The program will equip participants with the knowledge and tools to advocate for their rights and needs, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.
Regular workshops will be conducted to focus on developing essential social skills, such as communication, conflict resolution, and empathy.
The program will organize various outings and community-based activities to provide opportunities for participants to explore and familiarize themselves with local resources, events, and facilities.
For those seeking vocational opportunities, the program will offer training and job placement assistance to foster independence and financial security.
Participants will have the chance to connect with their peers, sharing experiences and offering mutual support in a safe and understanding setting.
All program events and gatherings will prioritize accessibility to accommodate diverse needs and ensure everyone can participate fully.
Collaborations with local businesses, schools, and organizations will be fostered to promote awareness and acceptance of individuals with disabilities.
